The Sensitivity of Images of Kim

As we were just talking about in class on Monday, the North Koreans are uber-sensitive about any image of either of the Kims. This article explains how a NK delegation in Seoul today became upset when SK protestors greeted them with posters of Kim wrapped in ropes.

With such sensitivity about how their leaders are portrayed, it is no wonder that many North Koreans believe that the U.S. is belittling their country and leaders. As we witnessed in class, the U.S. media rarely if ever give favorable pictures and characatures of Kim Jong Il. We also heard a story about the North Korean delegates who protested a picture of Kim Jong Il that was exposed to rain. Protesters and American media should recongnize the importance of inconography in North Korea.
